PhotoStroud came into being in 2006 to organise the first Festival of Photography in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
The aim of the Festival was to bring the very best examples of photography into a small market town well known for having significant environmental and artistic credentials.
The PhotoStroud Festival of Photography joined offerings by Stroud Valleys Artspace including cutting edge contemporary arts exhibitions and a highly successful annual open studios event.
The town also boasts a contemporary Textiles Festival and a thriving music and community events Fringe Festival adding to the yearly Arts Festival.

The Photography Festival organisers kept the name PhotoStroud to use in whatever way seemed appropriate to the job of celebrating photography in the area, supporting photographers and encouraging new talent.
This site gives a flavour of the shape some of that work has taken.

PhotoStroud have brought together a season of events for April 2009 under the title Words and Pictures. The varied and exciting presentations in this season draw on collaborations between photographers and writers.
